Radiotherapy Unit – update

Posted by nigelknowles on October 30, 2007

Yesterday I handed in the third part of my Petition to have a Radiotherapy Unit based at Kidderminster Hospital. We have collected about 5,500 signatures. There is a real need for the Unit to be based at Kidderminster. I have to admit that the final decision will be taken by experts in the field of cancer care, and not on political or financial grounds.
However, I think Kidderminster Hospital would fill the “blackhole” in the north of the county, and help provide further medical services at Kidderminster Hospital. The three Counties Cancer network (approx title) consists of experts and patients, I believe from Hereford, Gloucester, and Worcestershire. But why not Wolverhampton? Our people have to travel to Newcross Hospital in Wolverhampton, and the pressure could be lifted from Wolverhampton with a Radiotherapy Unit at Kidderminster Hospital. Personally, health policy, in my opinion, and major investments in capital equipment, should be more open to public scrutiny and open debate. (Elected Health Trusts would be good).

Putting the Clocks Back

Posted by nigelknowles on October 28, 2007

Today was the the day when the clocks were put back one hour. We accept the seasons changes, autumn chills and shorter hours of day light. However, do we have to make a natural situation worse, in my opinion, by bringing the night upon us even quicker than by the loss of natural day light?

I don’t believe there is a sustainable case for “putting the clocks back”. Agricultural arguments are not convincing and neither are suggestions relating to road accidents. I once to wrote to Tony Blair PM asking him to change the law and leave the “seasons time alone” (to no avail)

Before I write a similar letter to Gordon Brown PM I would like to find out out if other people share my preference. If the response is good, I might put up a Petition on the 10 Downing Street Website.

England 14 v France 9

Posted by nigelknowles on October 13, 2007

I love the French, our history is with them, BUT – England  – Wow – against the odds What a result! 14 – 9!!
Since 2003, England seemed to have lost every meaningful game BUT, even after losing 36 – 0 to South Africa, England got it together and won.
Into the Final!  Congratulations boys – unbelievable.
If I had the money I’d go to watch the final live in Paris. But – I’ll be cheering for England in Bewdley. I played rugby at school, nearly 50 years ago, and sometimes enjoyed it. I had one game only when I won a match for my team. It was enough! Richard Burton said he was never big enough at 12 stones to succeed in competitive rugby – neither was I, but I enjoyed my moment, but, I’d still like to play! Come on England! (yes I’m a Socialist, not a Nationalist, but Come on England.

Free Elderly Nursing Care ????- Watch This Space

Posted by nigelknowles on October 12, 2007

Labour’s Chancellor Alistair Darling is currently investigating proposals that will finance elderly nursing care. This will hopefully see an end to means testing for elderly nursing care and take us closer towards a society built on care and social justice for all. this will be our greatest goal.

Securing this funding will be a complex process and will involve a lot of co-operation between government departments and local authorities.

Labour has already established free elderly nursing care in Wales and Scotland through the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly.
Labour is committed to diginity in old age and it is our desire to ensure that every person is looked after by the NHS, Social Serivces or other publically funded care agency.

This will be a dream come true for Labour supporters and many elderly folk, who will hopefully not need to sell their homes to fund care.

Keep it up Alistair!

£££ Great News From the Labour Chancellor £££

Posted by nigelknowles on October 11, 2007

Labour Chancellor, Alistair Darling MP announced more money for public services and the NHS in his recent Autumn Statement.

The Chancellor was cheered to the echo by MPs as he announced that spending on YOUR NHS, WILL increase by a guaranteed 4% EVERY year for the next four years, this is real investment that will not be destroyed by inflation.

That is a whopping extra £20 billion for the NHS. Some of this will be well spent in Wyre Forest.
LABOUR IS LEADING THE WAY ON HEALTH – THE ONLY PARTY COMMITTED TO A NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE FREE AT THE POINT OF NEED FOR ALL….. NOT PRIVATE HEALTH CARE FOR THE FEW!

Oh yes, There was a tax giveaway, a couple can now leave an estate of up to £600,000 for their children, free of tax. Labour will only cut taxes when it is responsible to do so and will only give tax cuts that do not damage public services. Labour will also save £30 billion in efficiency gains in the public sector over the next four years.

HOW WILL CAMERON’S PROPOSED TAX CUTS IMPACT ON YOUR NHS?

Labour has announced £14 billion for public tansport, £12.1 billion for council & community services, £2.2 billion for sport and culture.

LABOUR’S NEW AND REAL INVESTMENT IN BRITISH PUBLIC SERVICES

THE NHS, SAFE IN TORY HANDS…………….? ARE YOU THINKING WHAT WE ARE THINKING ?

Nothing New From Cameron

Posted by nigelknowles on October 3, 2007

David Cameron’s speech to Tory Conference showed us the same old Tory chorus: tax cuts, privatising the benefits system and of course, a big financial boost to their friends; the very rich.

Cameron didn’t use an autocue, which is what proably caused him to forget about telling us that the Tories want to scrap Britain’s new employment protection rights and social rights for families. He forgot to tell us how much less would be spent on: the NHS, schools and the police. He forgot to tell us how children from lone parent familes will receive less in Working Tax Credits than children from two-parent families, under his new Tory proposals.

Cameron and Mark Garnier will be bad news for families, pensioners, workers and the NHS in Wyre Forest.

YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO VOTE CONSERVATIVE

Only Labour will protect the incomes and rights of familes in Wyre Forest. Only Labour will protect the NHS in Wyre Forest and is running the LARGEST campaign for an Urgent Care Centre and the siting of a Radiotherapy Unit at Kidderminster Hospital.

BRITAIN IS GREAT AGAIN – DON’T LET THE TORIES RUIN IT
