Unemployment in Wyre Forest

Posted by nigelknowles on September 29, 2007

Unemployment in Wyre Forest is just over 2%. What a contrast to the Tories 10% during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. Our local economy is doing well. We have virtually a situation of full employment.  There are 1,148 people unemployed in Wyre Forest. Examples in the following wards are -

10 males and 7 females unemployed in Cookley 1.5%

46 males and 16 females unemployed in Bewdley and Arley 1.6%

43 males and 16 females unemployed in Lickhill 1.6%

113 males and 37 females unemployed in Broadwaters 3.7%

The Labour Government has delivered on Jobs, and created a very strong UK Economy that has brought positive results to the people of Wyre Forest and given increased prosperity.

Conservatives Cuts to Lunch Clubs

Posted by nigelknowles on September 22, 2007

By the end of 2007, Worcestershire County Council’s Conservative administration will make severe cuts (£31,000) to Worcestershire lunch clubs, including many in Wyre Forest. Check it out with your local County Councillor – particularly if he is a Conservative. (there are no women Conservative County Councillors in Wyre Forest).

Cigarette ban for under 18’s

Posted by nigelknowles on September 22, 2007

On 1st October it will be illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to purchase tobacco. I really welcome this law. It will save lives. I would also support the banning of cigarette vending machines to ensure under-age teenagers can’t get round the law. The new law is estimated to reduce smoking by under 16’s by more than 10 per cent.

A Pint of Beer and a Pound of Apples

Posted by nigelknowles on September 11, 2007

The European Commission have allowed Britain to keep its pints and miles. Imperial Weights and Measures will now be written into EU Law  – Good News! The EU Industry Commissioner has said it was a “pointless battle” between London and Brussels, so we can keep miles, feet, inches  -  pints, pounds and ounces. This helps protect Britain’s traditions, culture and lifestyle!!

So  – I’m off down to the pub for a pint – it’s only a few yards away. Tomorrow, I’ll get a pound of Cheddar cheese from the Co-op, a pint of milk and The Guardian. The EU ruling is important and sensible. Personally, I never changed from Imperial and I’m very pleased by the result.
