St Georges Day

Posted by nigelknowles on April 27, 2007

Typical Tories! They want to scrap the May Day Bank Holiday and move it to St Georges Day, April 23rd. I think they should keep Andrew Rosindell MP very quiet. The Tories hate the idea of celebrating May 1st. – the International Workers Day. They think they can cash in on “Jolly George” and wave the English flag. We can all do that, even given that St George was possibly a Greek or Italian and I’m sure, if he existed, was a great guy. So here’s the compromise – let’s keep the May Day Bank Holiday and introduce an English National Day one day holiday for St Georges Day.

Habberley Tenants Committee meetings and Police Presence

Posted by nigelknowles on April 18, 2007

Great to have a Police presence at the recent Habberley Tenants Committee Meeting. PACT meetings are also good, but I really appreciate the Police being available to answer the tenants questions and to give their own reports. We have more Police now in Wyre Forest than ever before, crime figures are down, but parts of our District are still blighted by Anti-Social Behaviour and Criminal Damage to property. Recent Section 30 (ASBO) Orders put into Franche and Marlpool Gardens have helped clear up trouble spots there. We are told arrests of very young people were made and the message was “tough application of the law”. Agencies working together can definately have the right impact to protect the members of our Community.
